Devoid of rhythm, charm or melody, the piece is a cacophonous fusion of discordant jangles and rumbles. But as the lively taps and claps of the “table music” performance end, John Corkill MUS ’11 takes over the drums with inexplicable viciousness. It does not establish a tempo until the very end, which serves to enhance its climax.
In the first piece, a composition by Thiery de May, the performers execute the sequence with great gusto. Soon after the first piece, “The Perks” rapidly loses its drama and debilitates to a melee of comical antics which only occasionally pass as something close to funny. But unfortunately, the marvelously soulful beginning has a disappointingly tragic ending. Mesmerizing slow motions with dramatic lighting have all the signs of a touching performance. The concert starts with the death of a young girl who is laid to rest in a wooden casket. But the show, which premiered last night at the Yale Cabaret, does not quite fulfill the audience’s expectations, quickly devolving into a shrill ruckus. Bruno has been teaching since 2004, and offers rock, funk, jazz, bebop, blues, country, R&B, Latin (Salsa, son, Mambo, Bolero, etc.), Brazilian (Samba, Bossa Nova, Baião, Maracatu, etc.) and orchestral percussion.īruno has been teaching with Melody Music Studios since: He currently performs in a pop/rock/funk band that tours around the miswest. Bruno grew up in Brazil, and started playing drums when he was very young, studying in a music school at the age of 13. At the university, he is a graduate assistant of the percussion department, and teaches percussion, drum set, percussion methods, percussion ensemble, and Brazilian percussion ensemble. He currently attends the Ball State University in Muncie IN with an expected graduation date of 2018 towards a Bachelor in Percussion Performance.
